Jacob, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs?

I'm a Melbourne based freelance photographer specialising in fashion and beauty photography. My passion began when my Grandfather, a Vietnam Veteran, gave me his 35mm film camera that he had with him during the Vietnam War. I have always been creative and this medium was an enjoyable way for me to express my creativity.

From your point of view, what are the most difficult aspects of professional fashion photography?

Probably the most difficult aspect for me is refining each individual mood board preparing for my shoots. I have so many ideas for different looks that sometimes I just need to stop and refocus my thoughts.

As the expert you are, what are the unique features of this kind of photography and the keys to master it?

Apart from the obvious aesthetics, I think the key to fashion and beauty photography is being able to easily build rapport with the models and make them feel at ease with you.

In your opinion, how beauty is perceived at the present age? What does photography mean to you personally and what really makes a woman beautiful?

I think beauty is about individuality and the aura of a subject not the superficial features of an individual. For me photography is an art, a way to express emotions through an image. I think every woman is beautiful and deserves to feel that way.

What type of models do you prefer to shoot with? Why?

I don't actually have a preferred type of model to shoot with. I love the challenge of capturing beautiful images of everyone.

Are there any other photographers you lookup? Who?

I love the work of Annie Leibovitz for obvious reasons, she is a true icon of the industry. I also have a fantastic mentor in Rodney Stewart who was one of my teachers while studying photography. He continues to encourage me to this day. He is an outstanding photographer in his own right.

What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?

I always have a few projects on the go. I am currently preparing a few shoots in my studio for some portfolio and magazine work. I am also shooting some e-commerce images. My goals for the future are to keep growing and succeeding in the photography field. Once the world opens up again post COVID, I wan't to travel the world with my work.

Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you?

You can review some of my work via my website or Instagram
