Capturing Beauty: An Interview with Yulia Zakharova, Portrait and Fashion Photographer

Updated: Jul 5

What inspired you to pursue a career in portrait and fashion photography?

I love people. I love all people with all my heart. I see every person as beautiful and I want to show their beauty to themselves. I want every woman and every men can see themselves as celebrities on pages of fashion journal.

How do you approach capturing the personality and essence of your subjects in your portraits?

It's extremely difficult to capture a personality, especially if I meet a person just before the photo shot. My personal method combines thorough preparation before shooting and improvisation of the hero during the shoot.

I allow my hero to move and behave freely within the framework of prepared scenarios and lighting schemes.

As a result on my photos, people are dancing and smiling. They are happy and they let me capture their personality through their eyes, poses and gestures..

What is your creative process when planning a fashion shoot?

First of all we together with my model should decide what we want to say with our photo serie. Idea is the main thing in my photograhies.

After we decide we start to plan and prepare everything we need: mood board, clothes, accessories, lightning schemes, etc...

This process actually is quite a routine)

How do you stay current with trends and changes in the fashion and photography industry?

I'm learning continuously. Every day. I stay current by regularly reading fashion magazines, attending fashion weeks, photo workshops and actively participating in online forums where industry professionals discuss emerging trends. t sounds again as a routine, right?))

How do you balance client expectations with your artistic vision?

While working on the project, I ensure that my artistic choices enhance the overall message or theme without overshadowing the client’s objectives. If there are instances where I believe my creative input could significantly improve the outcome, I present these ideas to the client along with a rationale for the proposed changes. This collaborative approach fosters trust and ensures that both the artistic vision and client expectations are met in the final product.

What has been the proudest moment in your career so far?

I'm proud that during the last 2 months i have 5 covers published! In USA, in France, in Greece and in Australia. I'm so happy to be recognized as an artist.
