Ian Art Photo, a brand strategist, a creative director and a visual storyteller

Your work is truly inspiring. You've established yourself as a distinctive figure in the world of fashion and portrait photography. What do you believe sets your approach to photography apart from others?

For me, photography is more than just capturing a beautiful image. It’s about telling a story and connecting with the subject on a deeper level. I strive to go beyond the surface and capture the unique personality and essence of my subjects. Whether it's a fashion designer's collection, a model or a corporate executive, I aim to create images that not only showcase their physical beauty but also convey their inner strength and essence, their personality, vision, and unique story. Additionally, I believe in the importance of collaboration and building strong relationships with my clients to ensure that the final product aligns with their vision. I am fascinated by the power of images to tell stories and evoke emotions. I found myself drawn to the world of fashion and portraiture, where I could capture the essence of individuals and create visually stunning narratives. The ability to transform a simple photograph into a beautiful-and-useful image has always been key for me. My background in creative direction and strategic marketing allows me to look beyond the surface and bring out the narrative that resonates with audiences. I see my role as more than just a photographer; I’m a visual storyteller.

So not just a photographer but also as a creative and art director, and a brand strategist. How does this multifaceted expertise benefit your clients?

Today’s fashion, and actually any businesses, landscape demands more than just great photography. Brands need a cohesive visual strategy that speaks to their target audience and communicates their message effectively. By combining photography with creative direction and brand strategy, I provide a holistic approach that ensures every image serves a purpose — whether it’s for a campaign, social media, or a portfolio. It’s like having an entire agency at your disposal, but with the convenience of working with one professional. This integrated approach not only streamlines the process for my clients but also amplifies the impact of their visual communication.

As a creative and art director, you bring a unique perspective to your photography. How do you balance your artistic vision with the commercial needs of your clients?

I view commercial photography as an opportunity to create visually compelling and impactful work that resonates with the target audience. By understanding my clients' goals and objectives, I can develop creative concepts that not only meet their business needs but also exceed their expectations. It's about finding the perfect balance between artistic expression and commercial effectiveness.

You are an accredited photographer at Milan fashion week runways, which is a huge accomplishment. How has this experience influenced your work?

Milan Fashion Week is one of the most thrilling and inspiring events in the fashion world. Being part of that dynamic environment pushes you to think on your feet and capture the magic of the moment. The energy, the creativity, the details — every show is a new challenge and an opportunity to push my creative boundaries. It’s taught me to anticipate moments, understand the intricacies of fashion, and work seamlessly in high-pressure situations. These experiences have honed my ability to deliver not just images but a complete visual experience that embodies the spirit of the runway.

You emphasize visual storytelling in your work. Can you share an example of a project where this approach made a significant impact?

One of the most memorable projects was a campaign for an emerging fashion brand that wanted to break into the international market. They needed more than just product photos; they wanted to build a brand identity that would resonate globally. We worked closely to develop a narrative that highlighted the brand’s ethos and values. Through a combination of portraits, lifestyle shots, and behind-the-scenes videos, we created a visual story that connected with their audience on an emotional level. The campaign was a success, and the brand saw a significant increase in engagement and sales. This is the power of visual storytelling — it goes beyond the aesthetic and connects on a deeper level.

Your ability to tell stories through your images is truly remarkable. How do you approach the process of conceptualizing and executing a photoshoot?

I begin by carefully listening to my clients' ideas and gathering as much information as possible about their brand or the individual they want to portray. From there, I develop a creative concept that reflects their vision and aligns with their target audience. I pay close attention to every detail, from the location and lighting to the styling and props, to ensure that the final images are visually stunning and emotionally impactful.

You've also a great experience in the world of video production. How do you approach creating videos that complement your photography?

I believe that video and photography can work together to create a more immersive and engaging experience for the viewer. When creating videos, I focus on capturing dynamic footage that complements the still images and tells a more complete story. I also pay attention to sound design and music to enhance the overall impact of the video.

What advice would you give to brands or models looking to enhance their visual presence?

Invest in quality and strategy. In today’s digital age, your visual presence is often your first impression, and it needs to be memorable. It’s not just about having beautiful images; it’s about creating a consistent and compelling narrative that aligns with your brand values and appeals to your audience. Work with someone who understands not just photography, but also the broader aspects of visual communication and marketing. This holistic approach will set you apart and make a lasting impact. And of course, never underestimate the power of authenticity — stay true to who you are, and let your visuals reflect that.

You’re based in Milan but work globally. What should potential clients know about collaborating with you?

Working from Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, definitely gives me an edge in staying connected with the latest trends and industry movements. But my work is not confined by geography — I love traveling and collaborating with clients worldwide. The most important thing for potential clients to know is that I’m deeply invested in their vision. I approach each project with the same level of enthusiasm and dedication, regardless of location. My goal is to provide an unparalleled creative experience that not only meets but exceeds their expectations. Whether it’s a personal portrait, a model’s portfolio, or a brand’s entire visual identity, I’m here to bring their vision to life.

For those who are new to working with you, what can they expect from the experience?

They can expect a collaborative and enjoyable experience. I'm committed to providing exceptional service and ensuring that my clients are satisfied with the final product. I'm also always open to new ideas and challenges, and I'm passionate about helping my clients achieve their goals.
