Iuliia Koroleva: focus more on portraying the strength and power of women

Can you share how you first got started in portrait photography and what has kept you passionate about it for over eight years?

I started in portrait photography out of a fascination with capturing the essence of individuals. Over the years, the ability to freeze moments in time and reveal the unique beauty of each person has kept me passionate.

How would you describe your photographic style and how has it evolved over the years?

My photographic style has transitioned over the years to focus more on portraying the strength and power of women. Initially aimed at capturing genuine moments, my work has evolved to create narratives centered on empowerment, aimed at expanding opportunities for women. Through my work, I aim to showcase the inner strength and beauty of each woman, creating images that inspire and uplift.

You mentioned being inspired by the style and grace of Italian women. Could you elaborate on how this influence is reflected in your work?

Italian women exude a sense of confidence, elegance, and allure that I find inspiring. In my work, this influence is reflected in the attention to detail, the emphasis on style, and the celebration of natural beauty.

What does capturing the “unique beauty” of each woman mean to you, and how do you ensure this uniqueness shines through in your photographs?

Capturing the "unique beauty" of each woman means highlighting her individuality, personality, and inner radiance. I ensure this uniqueness shines through by building a connection with my subjects, understanding their story, and creating an atmosphere where they feel comfortable and confident.

You've expressed a particular love for fashion shoots. What aspects of fashion photography do you find most similar to creating art?

Fashion photography, like creating art, involves storytelling, creativity, and attention to aesthetics. Both mediums allow me to express my vision, evoke emotions, and push boundaries creatively.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face when conducting portrait shoots and how do you overcome them?

Challenges during portrait shoots can include lighting conditions, posing, and ensuring the subject feels relaxed and confident. I overcome them through preparation, clear communication, and adaptability to unexpected situations.

Could you discuss one or two of your most memorable photography projects? What made them so significant to you?

One significant project focused on capturing the essence of each woman through intimate portraits illuminated solely by studio light. These portraits stripped away distractions, allowing their dignity and depth to shine through in the play of light and shadow.Another memorable shoot was "Pure Nature," showcasing the beauty and unity of women with nature and flowers, reflecting their inherent connection and grace.

How do you approach the initial consultation with a new client? What key elements do you focus on during this meeting?

During the initial consultation, I focus on understanding the client's vision, preferences, and expectations. Key elements include discussing concepts, wardrobe choices, locations, and establishing a rapport to build trust and connection.

How does Italian culture influence your approach to fashion and portrait photography?

Italian culture influences my approach by emphasizing beauty, style, and craftsmanship. It encourages me to seek inspiration from art, architecture, and nature, and to infuse my work with a sense of sophistication and elegance.

What are your preferred tools and equipment for a typical shoot? How do they help you capture the desired aesthetic?

My preferred tools and equipment include a high-quality camera, a selection of lenses for different perspectives, and lighting gear for creating the desired mood. They help me capture the desired aesthetic by providing technical precision and creative flexibility.

Looking forward, what are some goals or aspirations you have for your photography? Are there any particular projects or themes you're eager to explore?

Looking ahead, my main goal is to use fashion shoots as a platform to celebrate the power and beauty of women. I want to emphasize their strength and confidence in every photograph, while also exploring the richness of diversity and cultural expression. Collaborating with others who share this vision is essential, as together we can create images that uplift and inspire.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in portrait or fashion photography based on your years of experience?

My advice for someone starting out in portrait or fashion photography is to focus on developing your unique style, honing your technical skills, and building genuine connections with your subjects. Don't be afraid to experiment, learn from failures, and stay true to your vision.
