Sangeetha, how did you get involved with modeling? Where are you based now?
One fine day (quite literally), I decided that I wanted to do something different from my day job and got a modeling portfolio done. Interestingly, this was 13 years ago and around the time my son had turned two. A humble start from there, lot of baby steps and persistence (including a lot of sweat & disappointments), led to where I am today! I am based in Melbourne, Australia.
Tell us more about yourself. What else do you do next to modeling?
I am a model with international experience. I have worked with, and modelled for designers across the globe including Italy, Africa, Australia, India, US, UK and the Middle East. I have walked the runway for major fashion shows including Paris City Fashion Week, World Fashion Festival Dubai, Melbourne Spring Fashion Show and Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. I have opened the line-up of designs for multiple designers across each of these shows. I have particular interest in beauty pageants as well, and have represented Australia in multiple international pageants, across the globe.
The titles I hold include:
Mrs Universe Oceania 2020/21
Mrs Earth Oceania 2019 (Las Vegas)
Mrs Earth Air 2018 (Las Vegas)
Mrs Earth Australia 2018
Mrs Continents Australia 2017
Miss Photogenic Miss Continents 2017 (Las Vegas)
Mrs Australia Planet 2015
Mrs Planet 1st Runner Up 2015 (Bulgaria)
Mrs Personality – Mrs Planet 2015 (Bulgaria)
Gladrags Mrs India Top 15 2009 (India)
Given that my experience stems from my stints, both in the fashion modelling industry and the pageant world- I believe I bring my own unique style to everything I do- on and off the runway! Outside of this, in my day job I am a Marketing Director with a technology firm based in Australia.
What do you love most about being a model? And, what do you least enjoy?
There are two things that I absolutely love about being a model - the freedom to be explore different facets of my personality (is a process of self-discovery), and the opportunity to connect with wide range of people around the globe through my pics, from behind the camera lens!!
I cannot think of anything that I don’t enjoy being a model, as I enjoy it THAT much! Modeling is my stress-buster.
Who is someone you feel has really influenced you? Why?
I learn from everyone around, as I believe every individual has something unique in them. I think the biggest influence in my thinking has been the realisation of the fact that you don't have to always take the beaten path. Dare to be different!
What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration?
‘Creativity’ absolutely fuels my imagination. I am constantly churning unique ideas to do a photoshoot, or thinking about showcasing a different style on the runway. I am most inspired by the need to push my creative boundaries (constantly), and bring something unique to everything I do!
Share your wildest photo-shoot/modeling story.
There are two photoshoots that stand-out in my head - one where I had to shoot with 2 Great Danes (they were super HUGE!) and the other time when I had to get Afro hair for a gig. It took about 3 hours to get the hair done, and then another painful 2 hours to undo it and get my hair back! HAHAH!
What are your achievements you are proud most of today?
I am most proud of my capability to juggle the roles of a mum, a professional, a model, a drummer and at the centre of it all - being a genuine and humble human being!
What would be your advice to models on getting more followers/attention on social media?
The advice that I can give to models is to stay authentic and be true to yourself, in whatever you do! That alone will bring good organic growth in your followers.
What is your advice for people to be happier, healthier and more full of love?
To lead a truly fulfilling life which can keep you happy, healthy and filled with love- it is important to pursue your dreams, follow your instinct, and be ever grateful for what you have. Always count your blessings!
What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?
I have four creative projects in the pipeline (including a Cleopatra-themed shoot), travel to Seoul for the Mrs Universe International Pageant (as Mrs Universe Oceania 2021 title holder)- obviously subject to the pandemic situation & fashion show in Dubai sometime down the line. My goal for the future includes the launch of a women’s clothing brand, and doing a runway show solely with women who have scars.
